Under the ECB/SSM, banking supervision has become a multilayered and sometimes opaque instrument. Effectively managing regulatory relations requires a thorough understanding of the supervisory process and its participants.
In addition, in order to appreciate the context of specific supervisory measures, experts and managers should acquaint themselves with with macroprudential policy, its interaction with supervision, and the longer term regulatory agenda with respect to internal models.
Learning Goals
After following this module, participants will
- identify participants and stakeholders in the supervisory process
- understand the roles of on-site supervision and the joint supervisory teams
- gain insights in the internal processes of the ECB
- have a broad overview of macroprudential instruments and their relation to banking supervision
Target Audience
The course module is intended for (senior) staff who want to deepen their understanding of the supervisory process and regulation
Prerequisites
The material will be taught in English. Knowledge of IRB regulation and the supervisory context is recommended.
Schedule
The module will be taught over2 sessions of each 4 hours. The track schedule will be planned in coordination with the client based on the selection of modules.
Example case studies
For this module, case studies will focus on
- identifying key regulatory instruments in specific decisions regarding internal models
- understanding regulatory requirements regarding internal models from a macro-prudential perspective
- recognizing important trade-offs in model supervision from the point of view of a supervisor in simulated cases
